Meet Auggie
Auggie is a ten year-old charmer who came from a no-kill shelter in Southern
California where he had been for six months. His owner died without leaving any arrangements
for Auggie’s care. This redhead is seeking a quiet home with lots of unconditional love,
petting, tug of war, and fetching play. He needs an experienced dog owner, but only because he
still has some trust issues. Auggie is a perfect example of what long-term housing in a shelter
does to a Vizsla. While in the shelter, Auggie was constantly panting, drinking water, and
licking his paws and flanks. He also developed a hot spot the size of a half dollar on his
right hip from his nervous licking and chewing. Since coming to VRH, however, Auggie’s
hot spot has cleared up, his coat is now shiny, and he has put on weight to become a 74-pound
lap dog. He is good on leash, doesn’t bark or “talk” much, and has learned
how to “hug” (he stands on his back legs and wraps his front legs around your waist).
