Jake
Jake was sent to a big-time show-breeder’s kennel in
southern California to begin a life of stardom when genetics stepped in
and changed his life. He developed a slight under bite that kept him from
fulfilling his destiny. His owner sold him to a couple in northern California
where he became a much-loved pet. When Jake was four years old, the couple
had a baby and hired a housekeeper to help with the house work. Shortly
after starting work, the housekeeper startled Jake when she grabbed and
hugged him. Poor Jake urinated on himself and bit her face. While it
wasn’t serious, it required medical attention. The couple had Jake
evaluated by a dog behaviorist who determined Jake was not vicious but
recommended placing Jake in a home without a baby. So in the summer of
2006, Jake came to live at the Vizsla Rescue Haven. For the first month,
Jake would not interact with anyone. Eventually Jake’s need for
affection outdid his fear. Soon Jake let people pet him
and he played enthusiastically with other Vizslas. He had several good
years here, filled with love, long walks, play time and good care. Then
a miracle occurred! A wonderful woman named Diana talked to us about
adopting Jake! She spent time getting to know him and decided to adopt him.
Jake went home with Diana and it was a match made in heaven! We were so
happy for Jake and for Diana. Diana lavished him with personal attention
and love and Jake had never been happier. The story does have a sad ending,
though, as Jake developed some terminal health issues after being adopted.
Diana made sure that Jake had the best veterinary care possible and was
able to keep him comfortable until it was time to let him go. Thank you,
Diana, for your generous heart and providing Jake with such good care.
Jake will always be remembered and loved.
